Sesame seeds contain 50% oil and 25% protein. Plants grow to a height of 30–60 inches and stand well throughout the fall and winter, making it a great choice for dove fields as well as cover and feeding plots for turkey, quail and even ducks. The plants begin blooming at 40 days after emergence. The seeds mature in pods that will shatter once the seed reaches maturity.
Sesame grows best on well-drained soils and has an extensive root system making it very drought tolerant. The root system also helps to condition the soil by improving the soil structure.
Plant in the Spring after the soils have reached an average temperature of 70 degrees.
