Product details
Rattlesnake Brand Sulfur is a 90% elemental sulfur product primarily used to lower the pH of soil for agriculture and gardening. While its name may imply otherwise, it is not an effective snake repellent. It is a brand manufactured by Cape Fear Chemical, also sold under the Tiger Products, Inc. brand.
Uses
Rattlesnake Brand Sulfur is used for several purposes related to gardening and agriculture:
- Lowering soil pH: The primary use for Rattlesnake Brand Sulfur is to increase soil acidity for acid-loving plants like blueberries and rhododendrons. The elemental sulfur is broken down by soil bacteria into sulfuric acid, which lowers the pH.
- Essential plant nutrient: Sulfur is an essential nutrient for plant growth. It improves the efficiency of other nutrients, particularly nitrogen and phosphorus.
- Fungicide: Sulfur can also be used to treat plant diseases and fungus, including brown rot and rusts.
- Tick and chigger repellent: According to some farm and ranch suppliers, sulfur is effective at repelling ticks and chiggers from lawns.
